Law Firm Associates Starting Salaries 2007

Atlanta-Based Law Firm Raises Associate Salaries to $130,000
- Meredith Hobbs and Alyson Palmer Report

Troutman Sanders has matched the $130,000 starting salary for associates that earlier this month became the new top rate at several big Atlanta firms, said the firm's managing partner, Robert W. Webb Jr.

Rogers & Hardin also has raised first-year pay to $130,000, firm administrative partner Stephen R. Leeds said Thursday. He said all "full-time, full-track" associates will have their pay increased by $15,000 a year effective March 1.

Troutman was the first Atlanta-based firm to raise associate pay in the recent wave of salary increases a few weeks back, with Atlanta associates starting at $125,000, up from $115,000, and a $10,000 increase for other classes. But Alston & Bird, King & Spalding and others subsequently raised starting pay to $130,000. National firms Jones Day and DLA Piper raised Atlanta starting pay to $135,000.

Webb said Thursday that effective March 1, starting associate pay in its Southeastern offices would rise to $130,000, with a $15,000 pay raise for other associates.

In New York and Washington the firm has already raised pay to the new market rate, starting at $160,000 in New York and $145,000 in Washington.
