US and Cuba to resume talks on legal immigration
Immigration - The Obama administration is asking Cuba to resume talks on legal immigration of Cubans that President George W. Bush suspended in 2003.
In a new overture to the communist island's government, the State Department said Friday it had proposed restarting the immigration discussions with Cuba.
The department says the talks would focus on ensuring "safe and orderly migration" by Cubans to the United States.
The step comes after the Obama administration in April lifted restrictions on travel to Cuba by Americans with family there and on the amount of money they can send to their relatives.
