Thousands of people from across Illinois were headed to Washington, DC Saturday night to urge President Obama and Congress to pass immigration reform.

In Chicago, people from unions and community groups boarded buses Saturday evening at U.S. Cellular Field. Before they left, one speaker said they were marching to "remind President Obama that friends keep promises."

Approximately 50 Chinese-Americans from Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood also left for Washington Saturday evening.

Both groups will take part in a Sunday rally in front of the White House, followed by a march to the Mall.

On Monday, a delegation from Illinois will meet with members of Congress. Those taking part in the rally want immigration reform legislation passed this year.
