About The Immigration Reform |
Congress has been taking up immigration reform issues lately, with a raging national debate over how to cope with an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States illegally. The Congressional leadership is sharply divided over the issue, which indeed boasts national security, humanitarian, and economic complexities. When faced with such a challenge, however, a focus on core principles of needed comprehensive reform helps define the debate more clearly.
The Center for American Progress supports immigration reform that addresses both undocumented immigrants that are already in the country and our national security needs. We support measures that feature both strong border and domestic enforcement, crackdowns on businesses that hire undocumented workers, and a path for undocumented immigrants in the U.S. to move out of the shadows to earn citizenship as well as provide additional work visas for those seeking to enter the U.S. Lawyering - The Job of an Attorney |
